Cincinnati Schools To Provide Tutoring For Black Students

CORRYVILLE - Cincinnati Public Schools is forming a task force to help more of its male students - particularly African-Americans - graduate and go on to college. CPS appointed a 13-member task force Monday to launch the pilot African-American Male Initiative. A formal kickoff will be scheduled later this month. The project, which organizers hope to fund with grants and private support, will create Young Men's Clubs at five high schools and five elementary schools to provide tutoring and positive mentoring for at-risk males. The project will track the results for test scores, promotion to the next grade, graduation and acceptance/completion of college. The project is aimed toward African-American males, but won't exclude others who also need help.
